A lot of us suffer from the embarrassment of having a dark batok or dark nape. From those black lines to the dark spots or patches, that makes our neck look dirty and unattractive. Anyone can have it, may you be a man or a woman, what sucks is that when you have a fair complexion as it'll be more noticeable and more embarrassing.

There are some primary causes that causes for a person to have a dark batok, these are conditions such as eczema, skin allergy, friction from a shirt collar, thickened skin, dry skin, and even sunburn. There's also the reason of gaining weight so sudden that could result to having a dark discoloration on the neck.

According to Dr. Joanne Rebullida-Captuero, a dermatologist at Aesthetics 101 a Dermatology Clinic in Quezon City, "Increase in body weight may cause fat deposition around the neck and nape. This will initially result in skin redness which will later become pigmented skin."
Don't worry as there are a few home remedies that can be useful to enlighten the area such as using lemon juice, cucumber, yogurt, oats, and baking soda. You can make a paste with these items by using a handy blender, and after making a paste place it directly on your dark nape, let it sit for half an hour and wash it with lukewarm water. Some people would find that effective and some won't, especially to those who may experience having skin irritation and even allergy with the ingredients that you should use.

If in case that didn't work out, there's also an option of using creams or lotions that (take note) contains hydroquinone, kojic acid, azeleic acid, arbutin, soy, tretinoin. Using the creams that has these ingredients is found to be effective.
If you're fat, or if you suddenly become fat, it's much advised to lose weight first so that you can improve and eliminate your dark nape, but if in case you can't wait anymore, there's the option of undergoing a dermatological procedure, which is called chemical peeling. Chemical Peeling is a four week treatment or a month that could help you enlighten and even remove those dark spots or patches on your nape. The treatments price range goes from P1,000 to P3,500.

If you aren't sure on what to do, you can ask a friendly dermatologist near you that could help you advice on what you should do with your neck, as they know what is suitable for your skin.
